Joanne Adams

Research Director

Joanne Adams completed her BFA, Medical Illustration (1979-1983) from Rochester Institute of Technology. She start  working as a Medical Illustrator in University of Alabama at Birmingham(August 1983 – August 1987). 

Joanne Adams is working as a Research Director and Medical Illustrator at JIS Orthopedics from February,1988.  

Michael Sneller

Clinical Research Coordinator

Michael Sneller completed his B.S. (Biology), from The Ohio State University. He started working as a Personal Assistant to Gerald M. Rosenberg, MD, at Starpath Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. (June 2008 – July 2009).

He worked as a Research Associate at Joint Implant Surgeons, Inc.(September 2010 – September 2013 ) .

Michael Sneller is working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at JIS Orthopedics from September 2013.

Stacey M. Anderson

Research Associate

Responsible for collecting, organizing multi data to ensure information is being properly recorded and assessed. Prepare findings and update databases to include newfound information. Assist other research associates with various tasks including data entry. Perform internet searches to gather relevant information and record any findings in a manner pursuant to protocol.

Started working for JIS Orthopedics May 15, 2006. I enjoy using my skills to contribute to exciting new advances.

Dr. David Crawford

Medical Director of Research
Dr. Crawford grew up in Columbus, Ohio where he graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1999. He went on to earn his bachelors degree from Miami University with Magna Cum Laude honors. Dr. Crawford then graduated The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2007 and was appointed a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Crawford was subsequently commissioned with the United States Army and completed orthopaedic residency at Madigan Army Medical Center with trauma training at Harborview Medical Center. Following residency, Dr. Crawford continued his military service at Ft. Campbell, KY where amongst other duties he served as orthopaedic clinic chief. He also had the privilege of being the orthopaedic surgeon to the Army’s elite 5th Special Forces group and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR.) In 2013, Dr. Crawford deployed to Afghanistan providing orthopedic care for US troops and allies in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following the conclusion of his military service, Dr. Crawford completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction of the hip and knee at Joint Implant Surgeons. Dr. Crawford has made substantial contributions to orthopaedic research authoring multiple book chapters, publishing numerous research articles in peer-reviewed journals, and giving presentations at national meetings. Dr. Crawford’s clinical focus centers on adult hip and knee reconstruction as well as specializing in hip preservation surgery. Dr. Crawford lives in central Ohio with his wife Rebecca and 2 children Logan and Genevieve.

Since performing the first total hip arthroplasty in the Midwest, we have been dedicated to serving our patients.

Our Awards

2018: 2018 marks the reorganization of JIS into 4 distinct departments and the beginning of JIS Orthopedics.

2018: Dr. Derek Snook brings his 16 years of clinical experience to JIS. His addition marks a new era for JIS allowing the practice to broaden the scope of orthopedic treatments to include spine & neck surgery/treatment.

2017: JIS welcomed Dr. David Crawford immediately after completing his fellowship at Joint Implant Surgeons. His addition expanded our offering into hip and knee reconstruction, as well as hip preservation and traumatic joint care.

2014: Dr. Jason Reed joins the JIS family as the busiest orthopedic surgeon in southern Ohio and his practice helped JIS expand into the southern half of the state including the Lancaster, Athens, and Marietta areas.

 

2012: JIS celebrated its 40 year anniversary and dedication to excellence in the field of Orthopedics

2010: One year later JIS expanded it’s Hip & Knee talent pool with the addition of Dr. Michael Morris.

2009: JIS welcomed Dr. Jason Hurst, who spearheaded not only the JIS Joint Preservation Institute but also a departmental expansion into Shoulders.

2003-2005: The JIS family grew again with the addition of Dr. Keith Berend fresh from his training at Duke University. Shortly after, in 2005, JIS moved from its original location to the state-of-the-art facility in New Albany.

1987:Dr. Adolph Lombardi joined Joint Implant Surgeons, which would be the beginning of a soon to be 50 year continued expansion.

1972: Dr. Mallory founded Joint Implant Surgeons. An orthopedic practice specializing in total hip and total knee replacement.

1971: Dr. Mallory, a true medical pioneer, performed the first Total Hip Replacement in Columbus, Ohio.

Published Work

Since performing the first total hip arthroplasty in Ohio, JIS has been at the forefront of orthopedic research, publishing research papers that number in the thousands. From the New England Journal of Medicine to the Journal of the American Medical Association, we have published in the most impactful journals in the field of medicine.

We are at the forefront of hip and knee replacement technology due to our continuous collections of retrieved data. Our work is expansive.

Research Internships

JIS Research Institute is committed to educating and mentoring future researchers and clinicians. Since the practice founding by Dr. Thomas Mallory MD, research has been a core tenant of JIS Orthopedics. Internship opportunities are available for high school, college, masters, PhD, medical school students and current orthopedic residents and fellows.
