JIS Orthopedics proudly announces that Dr. Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr., JIS Orthopedics President, and world-renowned orthopedic hip and knee surgeon, has successfully earned his Board Recertification in Orthopaedic Surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). This achievement reaffirms Dr. Lombardi’s commitment to providing the highest level of care to his patients and his dedication to maintaining the rigorous standards of his profession.
The Journey to Board Recertification
Dr. Lombardi’s initial Board Certification journey began with a comprehensive five-year orthopedic surgery residency accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This intensive training laid the foundation for his expertise in the field. Following residency, Dr. Lombardi passed the ABOS Part I Examination, a comprehensive computer-based test that assesses knowledge across all facets of orthopedic surgery.
To achieve full certification, Dr. Lombardi underwent a further evaluation two years later, where his clinical competence was meticulously reviewed. This process included the ABOS Part II Oral Examination, during which twelve cases from a recent six-month period of his practice were selected for detailed assessment. These cases were scrutinized by experienced surgeons, who evaluated Dr. Lombardi’s skills in data gathering, diagnostics, treatment planning, technical execution, and patient outcomes.
After passing both the written and oral examinations, Dr. Lombardi became Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, also known as a Diplomate of the ABOS.
The Recertification Process
Board Certification by the ABOS is valid for ten years, after which a surgeon must undergo a Recertification process to ensure continued competence. Dr. Lombardi’s recent recertification involved passing a Knowledge Assessment, receiving positive peer reviews, and having a selected period of his surgical cases evaluated. Additionally, Dr. Lombardi participated in ongoing continuing medical education, demonstrating his commitment to staying at the forefront of advances in orthopedic surgery.
