He graduated from Jackson High School in 2003 where he was involved in music and the performing arts. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Anthropology from Kent State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. 

Dr. Byrd received his medical degree from The University of Toledo College of Medicine where he participated in community outreach and medical missionary work in Honduras. He was also decorated with honors including the Gold Humanism in Medicine award and accolades for Professionalism. 

Dr. Byrd completed residency at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School at the Texas Medical Center. There he worked with UT Physicians of Houston and was part of the Memorial Hermann Hospital system, the busiest trauma center in the USA and home to Memorial Hermann Life Flight. During residency, Dr. Byrd gravitated toward the field of Adult Reconstruction and Hip and Knee replacement surgery. He trained in a variety of ways to approach and manage problems of the hip and knee and performed research in the fields of orthopedic trauma surgery and joint replacement surgery. He performed at the top of his residency class and graduated after his year as a chief resident as the only resident to have ever been elected by his peers as a two-time recipient of the Arthur Jansa Courage to Lead Award. He also received many other accolades for his character, his dedication to his peers, and his dedication to his profession.

After residency, Dr. Byrd stayed in Houston to complete his fellowship. He helped pioneer the UT Houston McGovern Adult Reconstruction Fellowship and was the first fellow to train with the program. During fellowship, Dr. Byrd trained in the clinical evaluation and management of orthopedic conditions of the hip and the knee and participated in both clinical and basic science research. He received training in nonoperative management of orthopedic conditions, primary hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, surgical robotics, periprosthetic trauma, and revision hip and knee replacement. He also participated in surgical missionary work to Guatemala. 

Following Fellowship Dr. Byrd began his career in a rural hospital system under the Cleveland Clinic developing a program for total hip and knee replacement after which he joined JIS Orthopedics in October 2020. He completed a half year of additional training with JIS Orthopedics where he focused on minimally invasive hip and knee replacement, partial knee surgery, rapid recovery protocols and outpatient joint replacement. Since that time Dr. Byrd has been diligently working to improve the lives of his patients through individualized treatment plans, research, continuing education, and a never-ending initiative for improvement of what he can offer his patients. 

Dr. Byrd is a caring and compassionate physician and is highly dedicated to his patients. He is a family man who lives in Columbus with his wife, his daughter, and his son. He enjoys hobbies including cooking, cars, cycling, and golf.
