Ask-a-Doc: Do I Need Rotator Cuff Surgery?
Unsure about rotator cuff surgery? Learn from Dr. Jason Hurst about types of tears and treatment options at JIS Orthopedics in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Hello, I’m Dr. Derek Snook.
Often, after spinal fusion, we will have patients use crutches, which is based on their own safety. If the patient is safe with ambulation without the crutches or walker, then we may allow the patient to do that. But that is a determination that’s made in concert with physical therapy, the surgeon, as well as the patient.
And again, the paramount situation or issue is the patient’s safety. But oftentimes, the pain is significant enough within those first two weeks that a patient who has had a spinal fusion, for example, may need a walker and or crutches to help them get around.
