Ask-a-Doc: How Soon Can I Resume My Athletic Activities After Surgery?
Discover when you can get back to your favorite sports post-surgery. Learn from Dr. David Crawford at JIS Orthopedics in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Hello, I’m Dr. Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr.
For the patients whom we operate on who have a hip replacement, a knee replacement, or a shoulder replacement and do not have any caregivers available to them, we generally recommend that they go to an extended care type facility—not for long—perhaps just for a 5 to 7 day period.
The case manager at the hospital or the administrator of the surgical center will help with those arrangements. This is generally determined, actually, prior to you entering either the surgery center or the hospital itself, so that we can gauge exactly how your post-operative course is going to go.
