Discover the differences between partial and total knee replacement surgeries. Learn about faster recovery and improved function at JIS Orthopedics.
Hello, I’m Dr. Keith Berend.
Many people wonder how long their surgery will take. Routinely, hip replacement and knee replacement surgeries take about an hour. That includes getting everything set up, doing the procedure, getting the wound closed, and getting back awake and out to anesthesia.
Some of the more complex primary or first-time joint replacements will take a little bit longer, and revision surgeries can certainly take longer as well.
Shoulder replacements routinely take about 65 to 90 minutes. And the same applies—where that’s the time to get everything set up to perform the implant surgery and have the patient back awakened to the recovery room.
