Ask-a-Doc: Will I Need Crutches or a Walker?
Discover post-surgery mobility insights from Dr. Derek Snook. Learn about crutches vs. walkers for spinal fusion patients at JIS Orthopedics in New Albany, OH.
Hello, I’m Dr. Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr.
For the patients whom we operate on who have a hip replacement, a knee replacement, or a shoulder replacement and do not have any caregivers available to them, we generally recommend that they go to an extended care type facility—not for long—perhaps just for a 5 to 7 day period.
The case manager at the hospital or the administrator of the surgical center will help with those arrangements. This is generally determined, actually, prior to you entering either the surgery center or the hospital itself, so that we can gauge exactly how your post-operative course is going to go.
If you would like to know more about the care you will receive after surgery, contact us at JIS Orthopedics. Our specialists in New Albany and St. Clairsville, Ohio, can give you the answers you are looking for. Schedule a visit with us today!
