Ask-a-Doc: Can I Get an Injection for My Back Pain?
Discover how injections can alleviate back pain and why they’re not always the definitive solution by Dr. Snook at JIS Orthopedics in New Albany, Ohio.
Hello, I’m Dr. Michael Morris.
We want to ensure you’re medically optimized and fit to undergo this operation. So, you’ll see our general medical consultants for what’s called pre-admission testing.
What that entails is a history and physical examination by the medical providers, blood work, an EKG, and sometimes a chest X-ray. And then, if there’s additional testing that might be required—say you have a significant history of heart disease, and maybe you had a heart attack in the past—we might want a stress test, depending upon your specific situation.
If there are abnormalities in the blood work or some of the other exam findings, we might want additional testing. And the whole goal is to make sure that you’re fit and optimized to undergo this operation.
This is handled by our general medical consultants, a group that we’ve worked with for quite a long time—many years. Their office is a directly across the hall from ours here in New Albany, Ohio.
