Ask-a-Doc: How Soon Can I Return to Work After Surgery?
Curious about returning to work post-surgery? Discover expert insights on recovery timelines from Dr. David Crawford at JIS Orthopedics.
Hello, I’m Dr. Michael Morris.
The facility will contact you in the afternoon, typically the business day before the operation, to instruct you on what time to arrive. Typically, you arrive 2 hours before your scheduled operating room time, although that time is a little bit flexible.
It usually takes about 2 hours to go through the registration process to get checked in, to get into the appropriate clothing for the facility, to get your IV started, to have your nursing care provided, and to meet the anesthesia team.
So, a lot goes into getting you ready for the operation on the morning of the operation, and then ultimately, about 2 hours after your arrival, is what time you’ll have your operation.
